In preparation for pregnancy, you want to be as strong and healthy as you can be to endure the many physical changes that will occur within your body. When you are pregnant, the proper exercise prescription will alleviate some of the physical conditions associated with the growing fetus (i.e. low back pain, swelling, leg cramps, extra weight gain). At the same time, a well-executed program benefits both mother and child at the time of birth; studies show shorter labors, easier deliveries and faster recoveries.
Many women want to continue to exercise after birth to help get back to their pre-pregnancy weight. A realistic approach that considers time constraints and the right exercises can speed up this process. Taking the time to exercise is also very important for the well being of the new mother, as it can alleviate hormone related mood swings and rejuvenate the body by boosting energy levels.
